Broadband in Royalla? No way? way!

We all know the Brinkmeyers lied quite a bit to sell land in Royalla, a tavern/corner store, underground powerlines, fibre to the curb, among others. These aren’t all complete lies, there are some underground powerlines in the estate, and there is some fibre in the estate too, unfortuntely it leads to a RIM which means we’re never likely to get DSL here. (still holding our breath on that Tavern).

Ever since we moved in whenever someone mentions their enourmous (internet) pipe near me my ears blow steam out of frustration and sheer hate for Telstra.

There is some hope on the horizon for us though, on the hill behind our place appeared a mysterious contraption looking something like a bidirectional antenae of some kind, upon further investigation it seems that the Australian Government isn’t totally useless when it comes to providing broadband to non metro areas.

There is a scheme whereby ISP’s can get a grant to provide broadband-like services to non metro areas (formerly known as HIBIS, now called something else but with the same intent). I had given up on this being any use to us because in the past it seemed to only extend to satellite which was still stupidly expensive and sucks for playing games.

But now, these guys have installed a wireless access point on the hill which means some time in my future lies a wireless 1500/512 connection which isn’t quite cable/dsl2 speed but its a big step up from 128/128 ISDN and the pricing is reasonably close to town DSL prices.

The Zen of CSS

I utter disbelief that I haven’t seen this before I present css Zen Garden which is probably not all that interesting to anybody who doesn’t work on the web but it made my head spin around and steam shoot out my ears, you know? The page speaks for itself and illustrates quite elegantly the power of CSS, and makes me sad for being such a lazy sod and not using it to it’s full power in the past.

The English Language

I’m no english professor but I know how to use full words and string those words together to form a (mostly) coherent sentence. (I nearly type “sentance” uh huh).

Anyhoo, I have recently been reading the forums at OzHonda initially for research when I was deciding on the Civic and lately just for interest to see Honda fanatics at play.

Which brings me to my point. I know the internet isn’t exactly the bastion of good grammar and spelling, but some people just don’t seem to make even the most rudamentary effort, like so:

yay. post up ur new car pics! make us all jealous of ur earlier ordering skillz!

I mean come on, YOUR is only another 2 characters to type and the required letters are even close to U and R on the keyboard. At least he didn’t write “You’re” instead of “Your”..maybe he didn’t know which one was correct, hence the “ur”..ugh.

will anybody consider get the factory bodykit, it cost around 2500 bucks, and i just take a look on mugen one, look hot, but should be very exp when knock to ur door, hoho

I don’t even know what this scollar is attempting to communicate, but I think it has something to do with doors.

I think he means after Nov they don’t make any Civic model in slivermoss…

*I* think *he* means that after November you wont be able to buy a Civic in Silver Moss becuase they are not releasing them in that colour beyond then.

agree, civic in black still most wanted, haha

haha indeed. There are more of course but I could copy and paste until the universe ran out of electrons and still not have them all covered.
