Magnum Concert DVD

I’m just posting this to remind myself (since nobody reading this would know, or care who Magnum are), I just found out that there is a Magnum Concert DVD being released some time soonish, maybe, according to ezydvd, the release date has been delayed. Blah!

On a winter’s night in December 1992, Magnum took the stage before a capacity home town crowd packed onto Birmingham Town Hall. This is the supurb film of a triumphant festive romp through the greatest hits of the band captured at the very peak of form. Track Listing: All England’s Eyes, Vigilante, Remember, Les Morts Dansant, You’re The One, On A Story Teller’s Night, Tall Ships, How Far Jerusalem, Only In America, Days Of No Trust, Kingdom Of Madness, Midnight, On Christmas Day, The Last Dance, One Sacred Hour, When The Worlds Come Down, We Wish You A Merry Christmas

Awesome!

Control Alt Delete

Alistair asked me to plug his new, often updated, site, he owns a VL and is currently spending too much money on it, plays computer games and owns an xbox, so his blog is bound to have something interesting on it from time to time.

So, without further whatever, plug plug plug:

Back in the swing

A some of you know, I used to review Playstation games for a website called Absolute Playstation (no longer running so there’s no link), I have decided to get back into the reviewing dealeo, this time with DVD’s.

So I approached Steve Koukoulas over at DVD.net and wrote a sample review, by some cosmic accident he liked it and has given me a position as a reviewer for the site. It doesn’t pay a lot (ok, it pays nothing) but it will be fun to be back into writing again.

So, click here, to read my first DVD review, The Last Samurai.

Comments are Broken

I’m still finding pages that disappeared when the FTP client gained sentience and deleted everything, one of them being the comments page, I’ll re-upload it tonight when I get home…blah!

Games Games Games

In the age of PC and console games, has the art of sitting around a table conquering the world on a cardboard representation of the earth been lost?

I’ve been thinking about boardgames recently and had a look in our games cupboard. There’s quite an array of entertainment in there that we haven’t tried in many a year. (all are linked for more info, some of these games now have on-line versions, not linked, google it)

For example:

  • Talisman (plus every expansion under the sun)
  • HeroQuest (plus a couple of expansions, lightweight Roleplaying at it’s best)
  • Space Crusade
  • Monopoly (of course!)
  • Game of Life
  • Risk (everyone always gangs up on me 🙁
  • Ogre (the old Steve Jackson Classic)
  • Battle Masters (almost life size wargaming, we liked this so much we bought 2 copies of it for extra huge gaming action)
  • Cosmic Encounter (I bought this at a gaming con once and played it a few times, I seemed to be the only one who liked playing it)
  • Kings and Things (I borrowed this off a friend, then he moved away and I never got a chance to give it back..or play it)
  • Car Wars Deluxe Edition (I lend my rulebook for this to a friend, then lost contact and I never got it back. That’s Karma for you, I suppose)
  • Roborally(Richard Garfield’s first game, before he became a multizillionaire for inventing Magic:The Gathering)

Other games I’ve read about recently that would appeal

Time to organise a gaming night methinks. Any interest from my dozens^H^H^H^H^H^H hundreds of readers? 🙂

EDIT: I found a good on-line games shop.

Phew, business as usual.

As you may have seen when I added <no idea what this linked to> my FTP client hates me and deleted the database and most of the site, luckily, I was able to re-upload the site and resurrect the database from an old backup and a cached version of the site, phew.

I found these pictures on my hard drive …

Actually, that’s the truth..they’ve been sitting there quietly, not bothering anyone and here I am, showing them to you. I’m not sure where thisis going, but there’s some snow, kangaroos and stuffed monkeys in there, what more can you ask from a blog about nothing?

The projector in action, guess the movie and win some kind of prize which will probably end up being nothing, guess it anyway, just to show how smart you are – it’s an easy one)

It’s errr, a monkey.

Just a random shot of the courtyard, complete with green grass, the only green grass in all of Royalla, thanks Biocycle! (no water was harmed in the production of this green grass)

Oh wait, I tell a lie, there’s some more green grass, I think Kristie does a ninja water of this one every now and then, otherwise it would be cripsy and brown like everything else.

We gave this Kangaroo a name, I forget what it is, how about Ripley? He lives in the courtyard and eats the grass and poops all over it, he wont bloody piss off, bastard!

Oh yeah it snowed.

We built a snowman but it’s on the other camera because the digital was having battery problems.

It really snowed.

Oh yeah, I’ve moved my DVD collection to DVDProfiler with the aid of a CueCat, you can see it using the appropriate link to the left, if you’re interested.

Jingle Bells (Redux)

I know, I know, no updates, la la la

The reason I haven’t made an update for a month is because the battery in my camera is dead, it will let me take about 4 photos at a time before losing power but it wont accept a charge at all, it’s dead, Jim. Ebay is the savior as usual, clone batteries are selling for about $35 and a genuine Sony one can be bought for about $70 or about $90 from the cheapest online shop I can find (http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/)

In other news, we just spent a week on the Gold Coast wearing shorts and t-shirts, walking the dog without having to put on 3 layers of clothes, it was a nice break from the sub-zero temperatures of Canberra. However, it was good to get home and have it snow on us last Saturday, about 2cm settled on the ground, enough to learn that Kristie can’t throw a snowball to save her life, but I can 🙂 (she builds a mean snowman though, we took some pictures with an old disposable camera, I’ll post them when they’re developed)

I’m considering buying a Playstation 2 so we can play Champions of Norrath which is similar to the Baldur’s Gate games but only available on Playstation 2. I have resisted getting a PS2 since it was released (is it nearly 4 years?) but if I can get a cheap second hand one, it will be worth getting, if only to play Champions and Gran Turismo.

I managed to pick up 2 cheap shirts for Jeremy’s saturday soccer games, if I’m going to chase a ball around and trip over my own feet, I may as well look the part. You can see me modelling the new atire at the Forest Primary School most Saturdays.

As about the only show Kristie and I watch without fail, the release of the complete Season 1 and Season 2 of E.R. had us reaching for our wallets. Hopefully they will sell well and the rest of the seasons will be released by the time we finish catching up on the first 2.

Big Update Redux

I know it’s been a long time since I posted pictures of rocks and dirt and trees and other stuff that doesn’t chance much, but we have done a lot of work lately that’s worth taking pictures of..so, soon!
