Wireless modem connection

My new phone, the LG KU990 (AKA Viewty) is a bit of an iPhone clone, but who was to know two months ago that the iPhone was coming out here so soon – I would have waited, maybe. One of the main reasons I went for the V990 is that is has a good camera I wanted a phone which could take nice pictures since I always have the phone with me and often (always) forget to bring the camera.

Where was I? Oh yeah, the Viewty is also a 3G phone which can act as a wireless modem, in fact I’m typing this post via a wireless connection right now. The only real catch is that the data costs while the phone is being used as a modem are pretty nuts, they come to about $1 per megabyte and I just did a quick test with light usage (msn online, loading some web pages including wordpress admin etc) and I used about 4mb in an hour, that’s $4 an hour which is pretty steep (even my dialix account in the early-90’s was only 1c/minute).

So, you wouldn’t use it as a permanent solution but it seems to work pretty well as way to check email etc if away from a proper internet connection. Now I just have to figure out some way to integrate a bluetooth receiver in to the eee so I don’t have to remember the phone’s USB cable.
